Omega Zeta Harvests Fun!
This past weekend, the brothers of Binghamton’s Alpha Kappa Psi enjoyed the autumn harvest at southern tier’s apple orchards and pumpkin patches.

On Friday, December 3rd, 2010, the Brothers of Alpha Kappa Psi and Black Dance Repertoire hosted the event “Binghamton’s Best Dance Crew”. Brothers Allison Kim and Janine Bautista pitched the idea to the fraternity in the beginning of the semester with hopes of bringing a fun, exciting, and completely new and fresh event to the students of Binghamton University. Four teams competed, each with jaw-dropping performances. They include: Los Bodofogos (one of Binghamton’s Ballroom Dancing teams), BUBS (from the on-campus Breakdancing Club), Binghamton Bhangra, and Broome Community College’s own Multi-Cultural Crew. After a very tough decision by the judging panel, Binghamton Bhangra ended up taking home the trophy and $500 cash. Aside from the fantastic competitors, the event also included performances by Binghamton’s International Flag Dancers, our co-host Black Dance Repertoire, and a reading by a spoken-word poet. If that doesn’t sound like a fun-filled night of performances, we also decided to let the audience in on all of the dancing, and held a contest to see who could do the best “Dougie”. The winner of this contest won free tickets to an after-show party. All-in-all, the event was a huge success, with 250 audience members in attendance, over $1400 in revenue, and an excellent time had by all.

Alpha Kappa Psi would like to congratulate their brother, Karlo Siriban, for receiving the XCEL Greek Man of the Year Award. The award is given to one male in Binghamton Greek Life that has contributed to his chapter, Greek Life, and the University as a whole. Among all the nominees Karlo was selected based on his innovative ideas, dedication, and heavy involvement on campus. As Business Manager and Treasurer of the Binghamton Crosbys, External Vice President of the PricewaterhouseCoopers Scholars Program, and Media Coordinator of Alpha Kappa Psi Omega Zeta, Karlo has a prevailing presence in all the groups he’s involved in and among Binghamton students. He has set an example for other brothers in scholarship, service, chapter involvement, and campus involvement. Once again we would like to congratulate our brother upon receiving his award and wish him the best of luck with his internship at NBC this summer.

The weekend was an incredible experience, to say the least. Seeing multitudes of brothers from so many different places attend, despite heavy snow and dangerous driving conditions, is a true testament to the brotherhood that we all share as a fraternity. Not only we did we form strong bonds with multiple chapters (that we intend to both invite to Binghamton and visit in the near future), but we developed ourselves professionally through seminars on values-based leadership, decision making, and more. After speaking with many of the brothers from our chapter,

Ever wonder why someone might want to join a business fraternity instead of a business club? It’s for experiences like this. Brotherhood is a connection like no other.
