Ever have those awkward moments with recruiters when there is a
complete lack of words? I think most of us can say that we have had
such an encounter or have a great fear of experiencing something like
it. Well, two Binghamton alumni, Andrew Silverman and Justin Wohl,
both alumni brothers of Alpha Kappa Psi, are here to get rid
of that fear. These men have the perspective of older, experienced
students who are now on the other end of the spectrum after finding
their place in the workforce.
Wohl said that his mission is to remove the fear of talking to
recruiters because, after all, they are not much older than the
students talking to them and, therefore, have a lot in common with us.
It is time to get rid of the awkward silences and become comfortable
with conversing with those not-so-scary recruiters. This event is
promised to be as successful as it was last year.

must. Rowe is a Human Resource Generalist involved with Training and
Development Programs and he is coming to Binghamton to discuss why NBT

Omega Zeta Recognized for Outstanding Achievement

Congratulations Omega Zeta for being recognized as the top chapter in the Northeast Region! This past month, our chapter was presented with the Outstanding Chapter and First in the Region Awards. The Outstanding Chapter Award is presented to chapters who have obtained over 95,000 points on the ACR. The First in the Region Award goes to the chapter with the highest number of ACR points of the Northeast! These are no small accomplishments, and are a result of constant hard work from every brother of Omega Zeta. These awards are true reflections of our strong brotherhood and drive to improve steadily with each day!

Corning Inc: Creating Possibilities

On October 13, 2011, Mark LaLomia, IT Project Manager from Corning Inc., came to campus to meet
Binghamton students and discuss Corning’s role in the changing field of technology. Corning Inc. focuses
on a niche market of specialty glass and ceramics, with their hand in display tech, telecom, life sciences,
and other market segments. Corning Inc. is a current Fortune 500 company, ranked at 350. It is a 4-
time National Medal of Technology winner, and has been celebrated as one of Fortune Magazine’s Most
Admired Companies.

Corning Inc.’s history dates back 160 years, and the company has played an integral role in technological
advancements ever since. In 1879, it was Corning Inc. that created hand-blown light bulbs for Thomas
Edison’s first lamps. In 1964, they pioneered the fusion overflow process, which is used universally
today. This innovative company is constantly discovering new ways to apply the glass product. Corning
Inc. cultivates growth through innovation, and a culture of continual improvement.

Beyond the focus on creation of cutting-edge technology, Corning Inc. also has a strong focus on offering
employees opportunities to develop professionally and personally. When asked what encouraged him
to join Corning Inc., LaLomia simply said “Corning cares.” Corning works hard to develop a personal
relationship with their employees. Former interns in the IT department have affirmed this sentiment,

Mark LaLomia graduated from Binghamton University in 1988 with a BS in Management, concentrating
in MIS. He went on to work at Electronic Data Systems and Main Street America Group, while obtaining
a MS in Project Management at New England College. LaLomia urges undergraduate students to seek
relevant work experience and a MS in order to achieve career goals. Mark LaLomia had always dreamt
of working for Corning Inc., and with experience in the field, and strong academic background, he was
an ideal candidate for IT Project Manager. He joined the company in May 2011, and looks forward to
grow and progress under the auspices of Corning Inc.

Corning Inc. is currently offering summer internships to MS students with an IT background. They seek
students who have a passion for information technology, ability to work collaboratively, and strong
analytical skills.

Omega Zeta Pumpkin Picking

Omega Zeta Harvests Fun!
This past weekend, the brothers of Binghamton’s Alpha Kappa Psi enjoyed the autumn harvest at southern tier’s apple orchards and pumpkin patches. On Friday, brothers went to Lone Maple Farm for apple picking and hayrides. Saturday was spent pumpkin picking, with carving and baking pumpkin seeds in the afternoon. Since an Omega Zeta event would not be complete with a little competition, the brothers vied to create the best decorated jack o’ lantern. It is brotherhood events like these that give Omega Zeta time to relax together and appreciate Binghamton in its most beautiful season!

Binghamton students and discuss the changing field of technology. Corning Inc. is the global leader in

This information and networking opportunity is geared towards students studying MIS or IT. Come

Happy Birthday Alpha Kappa Psi!

On October 5, Omega Zeta celebrated 107 years of brotherhood with a Founder’s Day dinner in
Mountainview Dining Hall, where we shared stories and blue-and-gold cupcakes. Omega Zeta
celebrates Founder’s Day to reconnect to the history of our national organization, and also renew
our sense of purpose. To Vice President of Brotherhood, Vincent Dao, Founder’s Day “represents the
beginning of a tradition that has lasted generations, created leaders, and had an undeniable impact on
the face of business and other fields”. We use this day to honor our extended family of Alpha Kappa Psi
across chapters, and rejoice the future contributions of Omega Zeta.
