Frequently Asked Questions about Alpha Kappa Psi
What’s it like to be in a business fraternity?
Being in Alpha Kappa Psi has all of the networking benefits of a social fraternity with the added benefit of professional development. Throughout the pledging process and during your entire time as a brother of Omega Zeta, our chapter seeks to build your resume, give you leadership experience, and allow you to try new things. We save plenty of time for fun and camaraderie, but it’s the professional atmosphere of a business fraternity that sets you apart from your peers. You’ll improve your public speaking skills, get experience coordinating large-scale events, and join a network of over 228,000 people who came before you.
Who can rush Alpha Kappa Psi?
Anyone with an interest in business. Alpha Kappa Psi at Binghamton University is not reserved solely for School of Management students because the Omega Zeta chapter realizes not everyone you meet in the business world will have a business degree. By opening the fraternity to all majors and people with all different skill sets, we have a very diverse range of students who each bring their own talents and experiences to the chapter. We welcome all students to join us for RUSH week. However, first semester freshman and first semester transfer students must wait until their second semester at Binghamton University to be eligible to receive a bid.
How do I find out about the RUSH calendar? What if there are any changes?
You can find the RUSH calendar on our website, or join our Binghamton AKPsi RUSH group on Facebook, which sends reminder messages to its members during RUSH week. Keep an eye open around campus; posters will be hanging, B-Line will have occasional announcements, and brothers will be wearing RUSH shirts in the coming weeks. Feel free to reach out to any brother you meet and make a connection early!
What is a bid?
A bid is an offer to pledge. It indicates that we feel you have the potential to learn what it takes to be a brother. It is not a binding agreement that we will accept you, but rather an exciting opportunity to enter a process that will develop you personally and professionally. RUSH week is your opportunity to get a feel for the fraternity and our brothers and to make yourself known.
How much time is pledging?
About the same amount of time the average college student spends watching TV, browsing Facebook, tweeting, and going out.
How long is pledging?
It depends on the pledge class. Once the pledge class is deemed done with all their assignments, pledging is complete.
Do I need a certain GPA?
The minimum GPA needed to pledge under Greek Life at Binghamton University is a 3.0 GPA. We understand that school is the number one priority and we can guarantee that your GPA will not suffer if you pledge our Fraternity. We also can provide tutoring for classes considering we most likely have a Brother who has taken any given course. We will also go as far as saying we expect your GPA to improve with all the new time management skills you pick up during pledging.
What if the FAQs don’t answer all my questions?
Any questions can be directed to the Vice President of Membership at firstname.lastname@example.org. Alternatively, talk to any brothers you see around campus, or come out to RUSH and ask us in person! We’ll answer anything you don’t see listed here!
